Online news growing as a source

The Internet continues to grow as a source of news for Americans, according to a new study from Pew. One-in-four (24%) list the internet as a main source of news. Roughly the same number (23%) say they go online for news every day, up from 15% in 2000; the percentage checking the web for news at least once a week has grown from 33% to 44% over the same time period.

Topix launches Canadian news

Topix.net announced today that it is expanding internationally and has launched a new dedicated news channel for Canada and local news for over 4,200 Canadian cities and towns. Users can search by city name, province or postal code. Topix plans more international channels and now offers online news from more 10,000 sources divided up over 300,000 news channels.

El Pais launches youth site

ElPais.es, the Web site of the Spanish newspaper El Pais, has launched cross-media project (print, online and mobile) aimed at younger audiences called E3, Eva Dominguez recently reported on E-Media Tidbits.

“The website is based on Flash, which allows a very visual interface embedding video and audio in a seamless presentation,” she says. “The great challenge of the project has been the creation of a back-office tool that enables the dynamic integration of all this multimedia content in a Flash interface.”
