Newsweek has now partnered with Technorati to includes direct links to what bloggers are saying about individual stories on the stories. Here’s an example.
The site is also running a Blog Roundup page showing the Newsweek stories generating the most discussion on Weblogs.

Most popular baby names

The U.S. government recently released its annual list of most popular baby names. You can search the historical federal data by state, year, name and a few other ways on this site.
Here is a great example of what news sites can do with this type of work from projo.com.
Online databases can be great supplements to what runs in the newspaper or is broadcast on air, and for a popular subject like this, can serve as a great, evergreen feature as well.
Sites honored for interactive storytelling, rethinking journalism

Five finalists have been named for the 2005 Batten Awards for Innovations in Journalism, which gives cash prizes up to $10,000 for “setting new standards for interactive journalism, advancing creativity in digital storytelling and recalibrating the role that news organizations play in their communities.”
