MSNBC.com launches new user-generated content space

MSNBC.com has launched a new section called FirstPerson for user-generated content. It’s the latest iteration of the site’s experiments with citizen journalism. (You can still see the site’s “Citizen Journalists Report” section from two years ago here.) The site is using the new brand and inviting photos, video and text. Perhaps most interesting is that the site says some of the submissions may end up on air. The site recently got more than 6,000 submissions related to NBC’s Trading Places TV series.

New York Times launches user-generated features

The New York Times has launched its first regular user-generated content features.
On Wednesday, The Times launched a Share and View Photo Gallery on its Collectible Cars site that allows members to post photos and personal stories of their collectible cars and rate and post comments to other members’ collectible car submissions.
On Thursday, The Times announced that couples who submit announcements to the Weddings/Celebrations pages of The New York Times will be able to submit their own How We Met homemade videos to NYTimes.com/weddings.
